CA 2185045

There is provided a locking and latching mechanism for a door or the like wherein use of the key to unlock the door will also cause the latch to retract into the housing and be retained in a retracted position until the door is fully open. This permits one to use only one hand to open the door without necessitating the turning of a separate handle connected to the latch. Than latch is retained in a retracted position by means of a control member which is moveable in a manner similar to the latch between extended and retracted positions. In a retracted position, the control lever permits the latch to be in a locked position while when it is extended, it returns the latch to a normal operating position.
