2092311 9205330 PCTABS00011 A door locking device (10) is disclosed for preventing an opening of a hinged door (14). The locking device (10) of the present invention includes a door jamb restraint (16) independent of the conventional striker plate (134) and secured to a door facing surface (95) of the door jamb (12). In one embodiment, a main plate is provided independent of the door handle (130) for engagement with the door jamb restraint. The main plate (32) includes a central plate portion (46) in engagement with the door jamb restraint (20), a first wing (50) fixed on one side of the central plate portion for engagement with the interior room wall (13), and a second wing portion (50) fixed on the opposing side of the central plate portion (46) for engagement with the door (14), thereby preventing rotation of the main plate (32) with respect to the door jamb restraint (20) and thus preventing opening of the door (14). The device of the present invention is relatively inexpensive and does not operate in conjunction with the door handle (130) or a conventional door jamb striker plate (134) for increased versatility and ease of installation.
