ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A double-acting differential with slip limiting elements with the differential case being formed by two halves held together with coupling elements. A drive gear is fixed to the case and conventional differential elements are arranged within the case, such as output shafts, side gears, differ- ential pinions, a spider as well as new elements such as a thrust plate, internally splined disks, exter- nally splined disks. Pressure springs are arranged in an inner space between the differential case and one of the side gears. The externally splined disks are connected to the case and the internally splined disks are connected in a manner suitable for torque trans- mission to the side gear. The differential further comprises a thrust plate movable in axial direction receiving from one direction the axial force arising on the side gear and from the other direction, through the splined disks, the reaction forces of the pressure springs. A lock ring limits, in case of small torque, the axial movement of the thrust plate and a flange is machined in the wall of the differential case supporting in case of a great driving torque the splined disks, to take reaction forces arising on the side gear.
