Long-period fiber gratings are placed in a predetermined pattern along a double-clad optical fiber having an outer cladding, an inner cladding and a core. The core is doped with an optically active material such as, for example, a rare earth ion or other laser ion. The long-period fiber gratings couple light between a mode of the inner cladding and a mode of the core. As a consequence of increased coupling into the core resulting from the use of long- period fiber gratings, the length of double-clad optical fiber needed to transfer light between the inner cladding and the core is reduced.
L'invention concerne des réseaux de fibres à longue période placés dans un motif prédéfini le long d'une fibre optique à double gainage possédant un gainage externe et un gainage interne, ainsi qu'un noyau. Le noyau est dopé avec une matière optiquement active telle que, par exemple, un ion de terres rares ou un autre ion laser. Les réseaux de fibres à longue période couplent la lumière entre un mode de gainage interne et un mode de noyau. Comme conséquence du couplage accru dans le noyau obtenu par l'utilisation de réseaux de fibres à longue période, la longueur de la fibre optique à double gainage nécessaire au transfert de lumière entre le gainage interne et le noyau est réduite.
