Double metal cyanide (DMC) catalysts and methods for making them are disclosed. The catalysts comprise a DMC compound, an organic complexing agent, and optionally, a functionalized polymer. The key component is the complexing agent, which comprises a C3-C5 aliphatic alcohol and a cyclic, bidentate compound selected from lactams and lactones. Polyether polyols made from the catalysts contain reduced levels of high-molecular-weight (Mn greater than 400,000) components and consistently perform better in urethane applications such as flexible and molded foams.
Cette invention a trait à des catalyseurs au cyanure bimétallique (DMC) et à leurs procédés de production. Ces catalyseurs comportent un composé DMC, un agent complexant organique et, éventuellement, un polymère fonctionnalisé. Le composant clef est l'agent complexant qui comporte un alcool aliphatique portant de 3 à 5 atomes de carbone et un composé cyclique bidenté issu de lactames et de lactones. Des polyols de polyéther obtenus grâce à ce catalyseur, qui contiennent des teneurs réduites en composants de poids moléculaire élevé (Mn supérieur à 400 000), ont régulièrement une meilleure productivité en matière d'applications de l'uréthanne, notamment dans le domaine des mousses souples et moulées.
