ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A method of providing equalization of the ampli- tudes of two beams passing through the slits of a double slit, optical null-interferometer without changing the phases of these beams. The method comprises the steps of (a) adjusting the relative widths of the slits of the interferometer according to the relative intensity of the beams which il- luminate them until the required equalization is obtained and, simultaneously (b) keeping the distance between the central axes of the slits constant to keep the fringes separation constant in the interference pattern. Advantageously, steps (a) and (b) can be carried out simultaneously by laterally moving the interspace surface existing between the slits with respect to the external sides of the said slits. A double slit device for carrying out the above method is also disclosed.
