ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A double thread compression cancellous screw having a proximal portion and a distal portion integrally intercon- nected by an intermediate tapering portion. The proximal and distal portions have threads of the same pitch. The inter- mediate portion has a smoothouter surface tapering the larger diameter proximal portion into the smaller diameter distal portion. The shaft of the proximal portion is cylindrical and the shaft of the distal portion is tapered terminating in a sharp trocar point. The threads of the distal portion may be provided with self-cutting flutes.
