A system is disclosed for making pressure measurements in a formation surrounding a wellbore. The system has a sensor which in use is positioned in to direct pressure communication with the formation from a pre-determined location in the wellbore. The system also has means for isolating the sensor when in use from pressure effects arising from the wellbore.
