One or more acoustic transducers (211, 211) are used to measure ultrasonic velocities in the mud in the interior channel of a drill collar and to estimate the velocity of a compressional wave in a fluid in an annulus between the bottomhole assembly and the wall of the borehole. Corrections may be applied for temperature and/or fine grain drill cuttings to get the ultrasonic velocity in the annulus (205) between the drill collar (207) and the borehole wall (205). The latter velocity may be used for caliper measurements and for correcting measurements made by formation evaluation sensors.

On utilise un ou plusieurs transducteurs acoustiques (211, 211') pour mesurer des vitesses ultrasonores dans la boue présente à l'intérieur d'un canal de collier de forage et pour estimer la vitesse d'une onde de compression dans un fluide présent dans un annulaire entre l'ensemble fond de trou et la paroi du trou. Des corrections peuvent être appliquées pour la température et/ou des déblais de forage de particules fines afin d'obtenir la vitesse ultrasonore dans l'annulaire (205) entre le collier de forage (207) et la paroi du trou (205). Cette dernière vitesse peut être utilisée pour des diamétrages et pour corriger des mesures réalisées par des capteurs d'évaluation de formation.
