The present invention relates to downhole equipment for use in the gas and oil drilling industry. The invention provides an apparatus (2) comprising a first elongate member (14, t8) arranged in telescopic relation with a second elongate member (16, 20). The elongate members are moveable relative to one another between a retracted position, in which at least one tooth (30) provided on the first elongate member (14, 18) is engaged with at least one tooth (52) provided on the second elongate member (16, 20) so as to prevent relative rotation therebetween, and an extended position; in which the at least one tooth (30) of the first elongate member (14, 18) is disengaged from the at least one tooth (52) of the second elongate member (16, 20) so as to permit relative rotation between said elongate members and in which abutment surfaces of the elongate members are in mechanical communication with each other so as to prevent further extending telescopic movement. Thus, the apparatus may be located between a spear and rotary casing cutter so as to provide means for setting said spear and for holding a casing and cutting string in tension while the casing is severed.

Les éléments allongés sont mobiles les uns par rapport aux autres entre une position rétractée, dans laquelle au moins une dent (30) se trouvant sur le premier élément allongé (14, 18) est engagée avec au moins une dent (52) se trouvant sur le second élément allongé (16, 20) de manière à éviter une rotation entre les deux et une position étendue, dans laquelle au moins une dent (30) du premier élément allongé (14, 18) est détachée d'au moins une dent (52) du second élément allongé (16, 20) de manière à permettre une rotation entre lesdits éléments allongés. Les surfaces de butée des éléments allongés sont en communication mécanique les unes avec les autres de manière à éviter un prolongement du mouvement télescopique. Ainsi, l'appareil peut être placé entre un harpon et un coupe-tube rotatif afin de fournir des moyens de positionnement dudit harpon et de fixation d'une tige de tranchet et d'une colonne de tubage en tension tandis que le tubage est séparé.
