4579 DRAIN AND COVER FOR SPAS Abstract A non-circular drain is provided with a cover which is designed to fit flush with the interior surface of a spa, thereby eliminating obstructions which could cause harm or injury to an occupant of the spa. The drain is located near a side wall of the spa and draws water both from the bottom and the side thereof in order to distribute the suction force of the drain over a wide area. Thus, the danger of the occupant being trapped on the bottom of the spa by this suction force is substantially reduced. In addition, this danger is virtually eliminated by the non-circular configuration of the drain cover, which prevents the formation of a vortex, and by the location of the drain near a wall, which prevents an occupant's body from completely covering the drain opening.
