A method of systematically cleaning and maintaining building sewage pipes is disclosed. The building drainage system consists a first conduit which collects waste water from one or more drains in an upper storey of the building, and a second conduit located in the basement of the building which is connected to the first conduit and receives the waste water from the first conduit. The method consists of first mechanically cleaning out any waste buildup in the second conduit, and then clearing the waste buildup from the first conduit by treating the first conduit with a biologically active solution. The biologically active solution is selected to break down the waste buildup from the first conduit. The mechanical cleaning step can be carried out by powerwashing.
