Drain Cleaning Apparatus for rotating a drain cleaning snake which is manually advanced through the apparatus comprises a frame and housing assembly supporting an axially displaceable non-rotating clutch actuating shaft which in turn supports a first annular clutch actuator for rotation relative thereto and axial displacement therewith. A second annular clutch actuator is coaxial with the first actuator and axially spaced therefrom and is supported in the housing for rotation relative thereto. A radially expandable and contractible clutch is axially captured between the two clutch actuators and, in response to displacement of the first clutch actuator toward the second, the clutch is radially contracted to engage a drain cleaning snake extending through the clutch actuating shaft, the clutch actuators and the clutch. A motor in the housing drives the first clutch actuator through a transmission pulley and belt arrangement including a pulley driven by the motor and with respect to which the belt is axially slidable in response to axial displacement of the first clutch actuator toward and away from the second clutch actuator. The clutch and second clutch actuator are axially positioned in a shroud at one end of the housing, and the position of the second actuator relative to the first actuator is axially adjustable to adjust the initial contracted disposition of the clutch for the apparatus to accommodate drain cleaning snakes having different diameters. The shroud is mounted on the frame for pivotal displacement axially outwardly from the remainder of the housing to facilitate removal and replacement of the clutch and access to the second clutch actuator and a housing portion adjacent the shroud is removable to provide access to the transmission components.

Un embrayage qui peut s'étendre et se contracter radialement est placé entre les deux actionneurs d'embrayage, axialement, et, en réaction au déplacement du premier actionneur d'embrayage en direction du second, l'embrayage se contracte radialement pour saisir un furet qui traverse l'arbre d'entraînement de l'embrayage, les actionneurs d'embrayage et l'embrayage. Un moteur installé dans le boîtier actionne le premier actionneur d'embrayage par l'intermédiaire d'un système de poulie et courroie de transmission comprenant une poulie actionnée par le moteur et par rapport auquel la courroie peut glisser, axialement, en réaction au déplacement axial du premier actionneur d'embrayage vers le second actionneur d'embrayage ou en direction opposée. L'embrayage et le second actionneur d'embrayage sont positionnés axialement dans une enveloppe à une extrémité du boîtier, et la position du second actionneur par rapport au premier est ajustable, axialement, pour ajuster la configuration initiale contractée de l'embrayage pour que l'appareil puisse accepter des furets de différents diamètres. L'enveloppe est montée sur le bâti de manière à pouvoir pivoter, dans le sens axial, vers l'extérieur par rapport au reste du boîtier afin de faciliter l'enlèvement et le remplacement de l'embrayage et l'accès au second actionneur d'embrayage et une partie du boîtier adjacente à l'enveloppe est démontable pour permettre l'accès aux éléments de transmission.
