This invention concerns aqueous compositions comprised of sulfonated aminotriazine/aldehyde polymers, e.g., sulfonated melamine/formaldehyde, processes for making these compositions, and methods of using these compositions as drainage aids in papermaking. These compositions, which become more turbid when diluted with water, provide improved drainage performance as compared to sulfonated aminotriazine/aldehyde polymers which do not become more turbid when diluted, or as compared to melamine/formaldehyde polymers which are not sulfonated.

L'invention concerne des compositions aqueuses constituées de polymères aminotriazine/aldéhyde sulfonés, p. ex. des polymères de mélamine/formaldéhyde sulfonés, ainsi que des procédés de préparation de ces compositions et d'utilisation de ces dernières en tant qu'adjuvants de drainage dans la fabrication du papier. Ces compositions, qui deviennent plus troubles lorsqu'elles sont diluées dans l'eau, fournissent un meilleur pouvoir de drainage comparé aux polymères aminotriazine/aldéhyde sulfonés qui ne deviennent pas plus troubles une fois dilués, ou comparé aux polymères mélamine/formaldéhyde non sulfonés.
