ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An hydraulically operable rotating drill assembly is provided comprising a drill head which includes a chuck and an hydraulic motor, the drill head being mounted on a double acting hydraulic ram coaxial with the chuck and defining a bore for a drill rod. The chuck comprises segments which are urged to a closed position by means of a spring, and capable of being opened by means of a further hydraulic ram. As a result of its hydraulic operation the drill can operate at an infinite number of speeds, and the feed rate can be varied in an infinite number of stages.
