A drill bit 10 comprising a main body 22 having an axis about which it is rotated in use; a cutting face 12, connecting means 16 for, in use, attaching the bit to a source of rotary motion; a gauge region 18 intermediate said cutting face 12 and said connecting means 16, said gauge region 18 comprising at least one member 20, 32 movable between a first position in which the gauge region is bounded by an imaginary tubular surface of constant cross-section co-axial to the axis of rotation; and a second position in which a portion of the member is located radially inwards, with respect to the axis of rotation, of its position when said member is in said first position, the gauge region whilst said member is in said second position being bound by an imaginary three dimensional conical sectional surface; and at least one actuator 24, 36.
Un trépan de forage 10 comprenant un corps principal 22 muni d'un axe autour duquel il tourne à l'utilisation; une face de coupe 12, un dispositif de raccord 16 pour, à l'utilisation, fixer le trépan à une source de déplacement rotatif; une région de jauge 18 intermédiaire de ladite face de coupe 12 et dudit dispositif de raccord 16, ladite région de jauge 18 comprenant au moins un élément 20, 32 mobile entre une première position où la région de jauge est liée à une surface tubulaire imaginaire à coupe transversale constante et coaxiale à l'axe de rotation; et une deuxième position où une partie de l'élément est localisée vers l'intérieur de manière radiale, par rapport à l'axe de rotation, de sa position si ledit élément est dans ladite première position, la région de jauge, alors que ledit élément est dans ladite deuxième position, étant liée à une surface imaginaire sectionnelle, conique et tridimensionnelle; et au moins un organe d'actionnement 24, 36.
