The invention relates to a drill bit of the percussion type having a bit body (10) of steel the front working portion of which is provided with at least one slot (11) in which an insert (12) is attached by brazing means. In order to substantially reduce the braze stresses and thereby enable usage of cemented carbide with higher hardness and reduced need of regrinding the drill bit of the invention has been equipped with a number of support plates (13) that have uniform thickness whilst being much thinner than the insert (12) said support plates consisting of cemented carbide or a metal alloy with a coefficient of linear expansion which, for temperatures below 500°C is substantially smaller than same coefficient for steel and the braze metal whilst being approximately the same as the same coefficient for the insert (12).
