ABSTRACT A drill hole plug having at least two arrays of outwardly extending members which have outer extremities for engaging the wall of the hole, the members being flexible from a relaxed or free condition, in which the extremities are on a peripheral line of greater diameter than the hole, to a compressed condition for insertion into the hole. The extremities of the two arrays are spaced in the longitudinal direction of the plug a distance to prevent cocking of the plug in the hole. The outwardly extending members in each array may be in the form of wings, which in the compressed condition, slant in one longitudinal direction of the plug. By slanting the wings of the two arrays in opposite directions, the plug provides resistance to movement in either longitudinal direction. The plug may be formed of two like or similar components which can be joined in an end-to-end fashion in the field, with each component providing one of the arrays of wings. The plug provides more reliable service in the hole because of its ability to remain in its located position during detonation of a charge in the hole and after subsequent abandonment of the hole. By forming the assembled plug in the field from two like components, the components are more economical to produce, store and transport.
