A drill sharpener is provided which has a point-splitting port which simplifies the procedure for producing a split point on a drill bit (200) undergoing sharpening. The point-splitting port (40) is positioned relative to a grinding wheel assembly (14) such that, when the drill held by a chuck (100) that is advanced toward the grinding wheel, a flute of the drill at the drill tip is brought into contact with the grinding wheel. The port has alignment stops (42) therein which mate with flats provided on the barrel of the chuck to ensure proper alignment of the chuck and drill relative to the grinding wheel. The stops also limit the extent of inward travel of the chuck and drill to a predetermined distance. A debris or grit collection tube (60) is also provided to be inserted into an unused port of the drill sharpener, to contain and confine any debris or grit attempting to exit the sharpener through the unused port.

L'invention concerne un dispositif d'affûtage des forets possédant un orifice de séparation de point qui simplifie la procédure permettant de produire un bout entaillé sur un outil de forage soumis à l'affûtage. L'orifice de séparation de point est placé par rapport à un ensemble meule de sorte que, lorsque le foret maintenu par un mandrin est avancé dans la direction de la meule, une goujure du foret au niveau de l'extrémité du foret soit mise en contact avec la meule. L'orifice comporte des arrêts d'alignement qui coïncident avec des plats se trouvant sur le support du mandrin afin d'assurer un alignement adéquat du mandrin et du foret par rapport à la meule. Les arrêts limitent également l'étendue du trajet intérieur du mandrin et du foret à une distance prédéfinie. Un tube de collecte de débris ou de grains est également conçu de manière à être introduit dans un orifice non utilisé du dispositif d'affûtage des forets, en vue de contenir et de loger tous les débris ou grains essayant de sortir du dispositif d'affûtage à travers l'orifice non utilisé.
