A method is provided for drilling of a well bore portion including a short radius curved section followed by a straight section. A drilling tool is provided having a first portion on which the drill bit is mounted and a second portion carrying the motor with a knuckle coupling therebetween. The short radius curved section is completed using the drilling tool with the knuckle coupling diverting to one side of the bore to steer the drill bit to the other side. After the curved section is complete the drilling is controlled in an accuratelystraight orientation by providing an eccentric collar which is attached onto thedrilling tool at a position adjacent the knuckle portion. The eccentric collar holds the drilling tool at a slight angle less than that during the curved section. Simultaneously with the rotation of the drill bit, the drill string, the tool and the collar are rotated more slowly about the longitudinal axis so as to constantly vary the angle of attack of the drill bit. In one arrangement, prior to attachment of the eccentric collar, a cylindrical or concentric collar is attached for drilling of a first short section of the horizontal portion. In an alternative arrangement, the eccentric collar has two flat sides which allow the collar and tool to rotate in a slightly curved bore without binding.
Cette invention concerne une méthode de forage de puits comportant une section courbe à faible rayon de courbure suivie d'une section droite, au moyen d'un dispositif dont une première partie porte l'outil de coupe et une deuxième partie porte le moteur, les deux parties étant reliées par un joint à rotule. Pour le forage de la section courbe, le joint à rotule est dévié d'un côté du forage de manière que l'outil de coupe soit dirigé vers le côté opposé. Pour obtenir ensuite une section absolument droite, on place une bague excentrique sur l'outil de forage, à proximité du joint à rotule. La bague excentrique maintient l'outil de coupe à un angle inférieur à celui utilisé pour le forage de la section courbe. Le train de tiges, l'outil de forage et la bague excentrique tournent autour de l'axe longitudinal en même temps que l'outil de coupe, de sorte que l'angle d'attaque de ce dernier varie continuellement. Dans une variante de la méthode, une courte partie de la section horizontale est d'abord forée avec une bague concentrique, puis celle-ci est ensuite remplacée par une bague excentrique. Dans une autre variante, la bague excentrique présente deux côtés plats grâce auxquels la bague et l'outil de coupe peuvent tourner dans un forage légèrement courbe sans risque de grippage.
