-18- ABSTRACT DRILLING APPARATUS In order effectively to aid the drilling process by the flow energy of a flushing agent in the creation of a borehole, a drill head is proposed which comprises a short, plate-type drilling crown (10) and a drill pipe element (11) connected thereto, wherein a one-piece insert (15) of a suitable plastics material is provided which is composed of two cylindrical parts (17, 17') which make substantially sealing contact with the central bore (12) of the drilling crown (10) and with the flow passage (13) of the drill pipe element (11) respectively. The insert (15) has a flow passage composed of two successive bore sections (18, 18'), in which the bore sections narrow in the direction towards a central outlet with different conicity. In this way one can achieve a low-loss conversion of a part of the flow energy carried by the flushing agent into kinetic energy which is effective during the drilling process at a region which is immediately adjacent to the cutting edges of the drilling crown (10).
