Drilling, completing or workover of a well, particularly an oil and/or gas well, is carried out using a fluid which includes a continuous phase including an ester of the formula (I): (R2)p-Ph-(CH2)m-COO-(AO)n-R1 where R1, AO, n, m, Ph, R2 and p have defined meanings and particularly where the esters are alkyl or alkenyl benzoate esters. These esters are beneficial by having a range of viscosities, especially extending to low viscosities, and attractive toxicological and environmental profiles for use in drilling, completion and/or workover of wells.

L'invention concerne le forage, l'achèvement et le reconditionnement d'un puits, plus particulièrement d'un puits de pétrole et/ou d'un puits de gaz, à l'aide d'un fluide comprenant une phase continue contenant un ester représenté par la formule (I) dans laquelle R?1¿, AO, n, m, Ph, R?2¿ et p ont une signification déterminée et, en particulier les esters sont des esters alkyle ou alcényl benzoate. Ces esters sont avantageux car ils présentent une gamme de viscosités qui s'étend tout particulièrement vers des viscosités faibles, et des profils environnementaux et toxicologiques intéressants pour une utilisation à des fins de forage, d'achevement et/ou de reconditionnement de puits.
