ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A DRILLING MUD COMPRISING A HIGH SURFACE AREA MAGNETITE CONCENTRATE A mixture of iron oxides obtained by pyrite roasting is subjected to magnetic separation. The magnetic fraction so obtained is a magnetite concentrate which is highly efficient in absorbing hydrogen sulfide evolved from oil drilling wells. It can be incorporated into drilling muds even in non-alkaline medium.
