A drilling tool is formed from a drive shaft having a coupling end, the coupling end having a cylindrical portion, an adapter housing having an encircling wall defining a socket, the coupling end of the drive shaft being received by the socket, and an annular recess formed in the encircling wall of the adapter housing. A seal carrier ring is seated in the annular recess. The seal carrier ring is radially movable within the annular recess, with the seal carrier ring sealed to the encircling wall to form a sliding seal. The seal carrier ring is also axially slidable on and sealed to the drive shaft. The arrangement permits eccentric movement of the drive shaft within the adapter housing without being prone to leakage around the seal carrier ring.
