Apparatus for cooling or keeping cool a drinking box includes a container having a pair of removable, generally parallelepiped, chilling packs therein, the packs being separated to define a cavity therebetween with opposed open walls of the container. Each chilling pack is sealed and holds a quantity of a fluid which is chillable and preferably is freezable, the fluid being an aqueous solution that includes treatment to slow down the thawing process. The cavity is sized to receive a drinking box so that at least two opposed side walls are in heat exchange contact with the chilling packs. A drinking box can be stored within the apparatus for several hours while the chilling packs, which were previously frozen or at least chilled, keep the contents of the box cool, ready for enjoyable consumption long after the box was placed in the container.
