- 1 - Abstract: An extensible drinking straw includes outer and inner parts. When extended, an enlarged-diameter portion formed at an end of the inner part slides within the outer part and engages a narrowed-diameter portion formed at an end of the outer part. This prevents the inner part from separating from the outer part. Even if the parts are slid in the opposite direction or the inner part is pushed into the outer part, they are prevented from separating by the fact that the projecting end of the inner part has an expanded-diameter portion. Alternatively, this result can be achieved by forming the end of the outer part located opposite its narrowed-diameter portion as a further reduced-diameter portion. In addition, an inwardly protruding portion is formed on the outer part to lock the inner part in position when the straw is in its extended state.
