The invention relates to a drive for a lift installation which drives a cage and a counterweight by way of supporting and driving means (6), wherein the drive (1) comprises a drive shaft (7) and a drive pulley (2), and a motor (4) is arranged at the left or the right of the drive pulley (2), wherein an air guide element (11) is arranged in the region between motor (4) and drive pulley (2) and guides air (L) from the region of the supporting and driving means (6) along the drive shaft (7).
