ABSTRACT Drive head apparatus for driving the drill string of a rock boring machine, such apparatus comprising one or two drill string connectors (4) (5) carried by respective recoiling and floating bearings (8) (16), the connectors having resilient means such as a coil spring acting therebetween. Each bearing arrangement comprising respective cooperating spheroidal seating surfaces (9) (10) and (14) (15) and is in the form of an insert replaceably securable to the associated connector body. A splined at drive ring (17) rotatably drives the connector and is axially reversible to swap wear ends.
