- 17 - DRIVE SYSTEM ESPECIALLY FOR A PARAPLEGIC VEHICLE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A paraplegic vehicle has a drive system including front and rear track units on each side of the platform. Each of the front track units has a walking beam pivotally mounted on a fixed axis. The walking beam carries two pairs of wheels and a track entrained about the wheels. The rear track unit is similarly constructed but the wheels are driven from the pivot axis. The rear track units are independently driven by hydraulic motors through respective worm gear drives to provide for steering of the unit. The two rear track units are also mounted on a suspension arm on which the vehicle chassis is spring mounted. The vehicle is also equipped with a saddle type seat and lower leg supports positioned below the saddle. The seat may be pivoted upwardly from a generally horizontal sitting position to an upwardly and rearwardly sloping standing position, while the leg supports are simultaneously pivoted from a forwardly and upwardly sloping sitting position to a generally upright standing position. This allows the occupant of the chair to rise vertically from a sitting position to a standing position.
