ABSTRACT A drive unit for a frontwheel driven car can be provided with a transversely installed engine in the front of the car. Such drive unit can be equipped with an infinitely variable transmission comprising a primary (driving) and a secondary (driven) pulley, and a final drive comprising a differential unit and two output shafts being positioned substantially in line in respect of each other. A very compact drive unit can be obtained by placing the primary pulley coaxial in respect of the drive shaft of the engine, and the secondary pulley coaxial in respect of the differential unit and the output shafts.
