A drive unit (1') capable of being coupled to a wheeled body (10, 14) to form a vehicle. The drive unit consists of a construction comprising a frame (2) with two opposite edges parallel to the forward direction. Said frame (2) supports a driving power source (6) and is in turn supported along said opposite edges by a pair of side walls (3a', 3b') that are themselves respectively supported on at least one wheel-like member (4b) and define a housing for transmission means connecting the driving power source (6) to the wheel-like members. Each of the side walls (3a', 3b') has two opposite surfaces (7a, 7b) perpendicular to the forward direction, and coupling/uncoupling means (8b, 8b') are provided on said surfaces for releasably engaging the wheeled body.
L'unité motrice (1'), accouplable à une enceinte roulante (10, 14) pour former un véhicule, est constituée d'une structure formée d'un châssis (2) ayant deux bords opposés parallèles à la direction de roulement, lequel châssis (2) supporte une source d'énergie motrice (6) et est lui-même supporté, le long desdits bords opposés, par une paire de parois latérales (3a', 3b'), à leur tour supportées, chacune, par au moins un organe de roulement (4b) et formant logement pour le passage de moyens de transmission depuis ladite source d'énergie motrice (6) vers lesdits organes de roulement, lesdites parois latérales (3a', 3b') présentant chacune deux faces opposées (7a, 7b) perpendiculaires à la direction de roulement et sur chacune desquelles sont prévus des moyens d'accouplement/désaccouplement (8b, 8b') à l'enceinte roulante.
