18 ABSTRACT: A driver circuit is described which can produce an output signal voltage whose peak-peak value exceeds the breakdown voltage of the integrated circuits in the drivers. This is accomplished by locking with respect to a reference voltage, under the control of a control unit, the supply voltage onto the output voltage while the total supply voltage is kept below the threshold voltage of the integrated circuits in the drivers. The invention is suitable for use in inter alia line current circuits of automatic telephone exchanges for producing high-amplitude ringing voltages.
