A drop-on-demand multi-tone printing apparatus has a series of channels (16) arranged to receive ink from a source (12). Each channel has a respective ink outlet (18). Each adjacent pair of the channels is separated by a respective dividing wall (14), and each dividing wall is movable in response to a respective pulsed electrical signal (W) to apply pressure pulses to the respective pair of the channels, whereby ink can be ejected from the outlets and deposited onto a recording medium (22). A respective pulsed electrical signal (C) is developed for each channel in dependence upon whether ink is to be ejected from that channel, the signals for adjacent pairs of the channels temporally overlapping each other and not being in phase with each other.
L'invention concerne un appareil d'impression multi-teintes par jet d'encre goutte à la demande, comprenant une série de canaux (16), disposés de manière à recevoir l'encre provenant d'une source (12), chacun de ces canaux présentant un orifice de sortie de l'encre (18). En outre, chaque paire de canaux adjacents est séparée par une paroi (14), chaque paroi pouvant se déplacer en réponse à un signal électrique impulsionnel (W) respectif, destiné à appliquer des impulsions de pression à chaque paire respective de canaux, l'encre pouvant être éjectée depuis lesdits orifices de sortie pour être déposée sur un support d'enregistrement (22). Un signal électrique impulsionnel (C) se développe pour chaque canal, selon que l'encre doit être éjectée ou non de ce canal.
