An improved drug delivery system and method for reconstitutings drugs. The system allows the delivery of a medicament from a drug vial (40) directly into an intravenous line to a patient. The system provides a method and apparatus that insures that the drug vial is properly pierced and the vial is locked into an activated position when it is desired to use same. To this end, a vial retaining member (50) for coupling the vial to a cartridge (12) including a cannula (22) is provided. The retaining member includes a cannula centering member (64) extending from an end thereof.

Ledit système comporte une méthode et un appareil garantissant le percement correct du flacon et sa fixation en position active lorsqu'on désire l'utiliser. Dans ce but, le système comprend un élément muni d'une canule recevant le flacon et le couplant à une cartouche (12). Ledit élément est pourvu d'un dispositif (64) de centrage de la canule s'étendant à partir de l'une de ses extrémités.
