One aspect of the present invention relates to a method of contraception in mammalian females, which method comprises the parenteral or rectal administration of an estrogenic component and a progestogenic component to a female of childbearing capability in an amount effective to inhibit ovulation, wherein the estrogenic component is selected from the group consisting of: substances represented by the formula (I) in which formula R1, R2, R3, R4 independently are a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an alokxy group with 1- 5 carbon atoms; each of R5, R6, R7, is a hydroxyl group; and no more than 3 of R1, R2, R3, R4 are hydrogen atoms; precursors capable of liberating a substance according to the aforementioned formula when used in the present method; and mixtures of one or more of the aforementioned substances and/or precursors. Another aspect of the invention concerns a drug delivery system for parenteral or rectal administration that contains the aforementioned estrogenic component and a progestogenic component, said drug delivery system being selected from the group consisting of suppositories, systems for intravaginal delivery, inhalers, nasal sprays and transdermal delivery systems.
Selon un aspect, l'invention concerne un procédé utilisable pour la contraception hormonale chez un mammifère femelle, qui comprend les étapes suivantes: administration parentérale ou rectale d'un composant oestrogénique et d'un composant progestogénique, à un mammifère femelle capable de procréer, selon une quantité efficace permettant d'inhiber l'ovulation. Le composant oestrogénique peut appartenir aux catégories suivantes: - catégorie des substances représentées par la formule (I) ci-après, sachant que R¿1?, R¿2?, R¿3?, R¿4? sont indépendamment un atome d'hydrogène, un groupe hydroxyle ou un groupe alcoxy ayant entre 1 et 5 atomes de carbone; chacun des éléments R¿5?, R¿6?, R¿7? est un groupe hydroxyle; et au maximum trois des éléments R¿1?, R¿2?, R¿3?, R¿4? sont des atomes d'hydrogène; - catégorie des précurseurs capables de libérer une substance selon la formule susmentionnée, dans le cadre du procédé décrit; - et catégorie des mélanges d'une ou plusieurs substances et/ou d'un ou plusieurs précurseurs susmentionnés. Selon un autre aspect, l'invention concerne un système d'administration de médicament par voie parentérale ou rectale, avec le composant oestrogénique et le composant progestogénique susmentionnés. Le système d'administration peut prendre les formes suivantes: suppositoire, système d'administration intravaginale, inhalateur, nébuliseur nasal, et système d'administration transdermique.
