ABSTRACT A float for a valve of the type used to control water flow into the tray of the humidifier is provided. Preferably the float comprises an elongated top, a skirt dependent downwardly from the top along its sides and at least one partition extending between spaced locations on the skirt to define at least one air cell on the underside of the float so that when the float is in water, air is trapped within the cell to provide buoyancy for the float valve. A float valve assembly is also provided having an inlet nozzle in association with a float preferably of the aforementioned type. A sealing member is carried by the float for movement rotatably on the float and this member has a sealing surface engageable with the inlet nozzle to control the flow of fluid. The sealing surface is excentric to the axis of rotation so that the member can be rotated to vary the height of the float by changing the relative angular disposition of the float and the nozzle.
