A B S T R A C T There is disclosed a dry granular calcined magnetic fraction obtained from chrysotile asbestos tailings comprising as its main constituents from 35 to 48% MgO, from 25 to 43% SiO2, from 15 to 35% iron expressed as Fe2O3, and an MgO/SiO2 ratio of from 0.80:1 to 1.30:1, said granular material having a particulate size of from -0.1 to -0.5 mm. The novel product is useful for the preparation of heat storage cores.
