ABSTRACT The water retentive properties of dry-set mortars containing water retentive agents such as cellulose ethers can be improved by the addition of small amounts of a promoter material such as ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, propylene glycol, 1,3-propane diol, glycerol monoacetate and diacetate, ethyl glycolate and mono- and di-ethanol amines.
