A novel dry thinned starch produced by continuously feeding a mixture of a base starch and a chemical which hydrolyses the glycosidic linkage of starch to a plug flow reactor, passing the mixture through the reactor, recovering the mixture and neutralizing the mixture. The present invention also includes starches produced by the process and paper products produced from the starch and coated with the starch.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour produire un nouvel amidon à viscosité diminuée, mis en oeuvre à sec et consistant à introduire, en continu dans un réacteur à écoulement sub-laminaire, un amidon de base et un composé chimique qui hydrolyse les liaisons glycosidiques de l'amidon, à faire passer ce mélange à travers le réacteur, à récupérer le mélange et à le neutraliser. L'invention concerne également les amidons produits par le procédé selon l'invention et des produits à base de papier fabriqués en utilisant cet amidon et portant un revêtement de cet amidon.
