DUAL ELECTRONIC BUSINESS SET CHANNEL UNIT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A communication link between a DMS and an EBS telephone instrument has a pair of channel bank units which separate the customer premises equipment (CPE), including at least one EBS instrument, from the DMS insofar as signaling is concerned. A channel unit at the central office (CO) end of the link provides the responses which the DMS would expect of an EBS telephone instrument, carrying on signaling communication with the DMS so that, to the DMS, the channel unit "looks like" a EBS instrument. At the other, remote terminal (RT) end, another channel unit provides signals to the telephone instrument which are like those which a central office would send out so that the RT "looks" to the telephone like a CO. The two channel units communicate with each other, transmitting signals (in addition to the encoded voice) on a T1 carrier system in a manner which is independent of the timing requirements of the EBS instrument and the CO and is therefore substantially independent of the distance between the two channel units to overcome the distance limitation between the CO and RT normally imposed by the characteristics of an EBS system.
