A sliding compound mitre saw more compact in arrangement than known existing art, using a novel dual geared link system to achieve near linear sliding mo- tion for the saw, having the advantages of having no sliding rail mechanism protruding from the machine, of avoiding the problems of flex and stiction typical of cantilevered sliding rails, ensuring more accurate planar motion for the saw, and of avoiding the high cost of adequately stiff and accurate cantilevered sliding rails.
