An inkjet printing apparatus for printing multiple print items in a print job may also be used to prepare a printing plate for a lithographic offset printing press. In the platemaking mode, a platemaking fluid is imagewise jetted onto the plate to selectively change the properties of the printing plate. Depending on the inkjet fluid used, the plate may be ready for press immediately following the platemaking operation or further processing may be required.
