ABSTRACT A power amplifier performs linear amplification when biased at a first voltage, and non-linear amplification when biased at a second voltage lower than the first voltage. A power supply supplies the first voltage to enable the power amplifier to transmit a signal modulated by a system that uses amplitude to represent information, and supplies the second voltage to enable the same power amplifier to more efficiently transmit a signal modulated by a system that does not use amplitude to represent information.
