A device is provided for the detection of gas, e.g. air in tubing (14) carrying a liquid. The device includes a transmitter (21) for transmitting a light beam to the liquid contained in the tubing (14), and first and second light receivers (20a, 20b) for receiving reflected and transmitted light emitted from the transmitter (21) and which is incident upon the liquid in the tubing. The light receivers are located within a body member (12) around the liquid conducting tubing and each produces a signal according to the condition of the liquid in the tubing. Both receivers produce such a given signal when gas is present in the liquid but each receiver also produces such a signal under a different liquid condition. A processing means (33) is provided which is responsive to the outputs from the two receivers and indicates that gas is present in the tubing only when both provide said given signal.

L'invention concerne un dispositif destiné à détecter la présence de gaz, par exemple d'air, dans un tuyau (14) véhiculant un liquide. Le dispositif comprend un émetteur (21) qui émet un faisceau lumineux en direction du liquide contenu dans le tuyau (14), et un premier et un second récepteur de lumière (20a, 20b) qui reçoivent la lumière émise par l'émetteur (21), réfléchie et transmise après avoir frappé le liquide dans le tuyau. Les récepteurs de lumière sont situés dans un corps (12) entourant le tuyau conduisant le liquide, chacun de ces récepteurs produisant un signal correspondant à l'état du liquide se trouvant dans le tuyau. Les deux récepteurs produisent un signal prédéterminé lorsque du gaz est présent dans le liquide, mais chaque récepteur produit également un tel signal lorsque le liquide est dans un état différent. Le dispositif présenté comprend également un moyen de traitement (33) qui réagit aux signaux de sortie des deux récepteurs et indique la présence de gaz dans le tuyau seulement lorsque les deux récepteurs envoient le signal prédéterminé correspondant à la présence de gaz dans le liquide.
