DUAL TERMINAL TRANSCUTANEOUS ELECTRODE Abstract of the Disclosure There is disclosed, a disposable, electrode construction for the transcutaneous application of electrical pulses to produce involuntary neuromuscular contractions, which can be used as a diagnostic tool to determine the effect of neuromuscular blocking agents on a patient. The electrode includes a base section formed from non-conductive foam material with two closed-bottom reservoir chambers formed in the base sec- tion for housing a cellular sponge-like pad and a quantity of electrolytic gel. An electrical terminal arrangement is provided for each reservoir chamber in the form of a non-porous adhesively coated sheet which is affixed to the base section and forms the bottom wall of the associated chambers, and includes a terminal member affi-ed thereto. Each terminal member includes an inner eyelet in surface engagement with the gel pad, and an outer stud engaged with said eyelet for connec- tion to an electrical lead from a pulse generator. The respective reservoir chambers are spaced each from the other by a portion of the base section designated as a barrier segment. The thickness of the material providing the base section, and the minimum width of the barrier segment are selected to insue that upon application of the electrode to the skin of a patient, that the respective chambers, gel pads and terminal assemblies are electrically insulated each from the other by the base section material, and gel cannot migrate from one chamber to the other.
