A fibrous insulation duct liner for sheet metal air ducts comprises first and second major surfaces and lateral edge surfaces and has a coating on the first major surface and the lateral edge surfaces to prevent erosion of the surfaces by an air stream and to encapsulate loose fibers and dust within these surfaces. The second major surface has an adhesive coating for adhering the duct liner to a sheet metal strip which is formed into the air duct and to encapsulate loose fibers and dust within said second major surface. The adhesive coating is covered by a separable release sheet which is removed immediately prior to applying the duct liner to the sheet metal strip. The adhesive coating is applied to the second major surface of the duct liner by applying the release sheet, already coated with the adhesive, to the second major surface.
