Abstract The invention concerns a starting bar for continuous casting installations having a curved bar guide placed behind an ingot mold. With the invention, a starting bar is created which is characterized bya flexible metal band (1) and elements (3) fastened to a surface of the band (1) for a detachable connection with spacers (2) extending in a lamellar manner diagonally to the longitudinal direction of the band, over the width of the band (1 ) on the same surface, said spacers (2) adjoin one another at least in the area of the elements (3) with contact surfaces (6), whereby the free surface of the spacers (2) is covered with congruent rubber-like plates (5) and the free surface of the band (1) is provided with a rubber-like covering (4).
