ABSTRACT This invention relates to dumped packing for use in gas/liquid contact apparatus. The dumped packings consist of a plurality of packing elements. Each element has a polygonal or arcuate base with a generally convex outer surface and a general- ly concave inner surface which extend about an axis to an extent of 90 to 270°. In section in a radial plane including the axis, each element has the shape of a trough, which trough has a length to depth ratio of greater than 6 and/or a length to width ratio of at least three. In addition the trough has one or more apertures. The dumped packing according to the invention has a low resistance to gas or vapour flow therethrough.
