-9- ABSTRACT The invention concerns a process as well as a device for the disposal of dust in a cupola by combustion/slag production and the use of an oxy- fuel burner for the combustion of slag/production from dust in the melting zone of the cupola. The dust to be disposed of is supplied, in accordance with the invention, to the flame of one or more oxy-fuel burners. The oxy- fuel burner(s) is (are) either arranged in the tuyeres of the cupola or fastened in separate ports in the outer wall of the cupola. The dust, which is heated by the burner, does not adversely affect cupola operation in the injection area, in particular the furnace operating temperature.
