ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A dust separator separates particles from a flowing gaseous media. The separator comprises a main flow conduit which imparts a swirling motion to the gaseous media. A free- ly rotatable turbine wheel is arranged at an outlet of the main conduit. Blades disposed on the periphery of the turbine wheel are acted upon by air from the main conduit to rotate the turbine wheel. An annular channel surrounds the turbine wheel. The channel communicates with the main conduit by means of a first gap situated between the outlet of the main conduit and an inlet of the turbine wheel. The channel also communicates with an outlet conduit disposed downstream of the turbine wheel by means of a second gap situated between an outlet of the turbine wheel and an inlet of the outlet conduit. Most of the particles leave the gaseous media through the first gap. Smaller particles which bypass the gap are deflected into the annular channel by the blades of the turbine wheel.
